In Eriu’s culture there are many genders and sexualities, all recognized and accepted. There is no gender roles or expectations; some cultures might have some differences in clothing, but nothing is exclusive to one gender or another. Kids are usually referred to with gender neutral pronouns, until they feel comfortable enough choosing their owns. Transgender people are accepted as they are, they don’t “need” to transition, but they can still do if they want to (see Medicine).
Sexual life and Taboos.
The inhabitants of Eriu are very open minded about sexual life: people can have sex before getting married, and is actually considered an healthy thing to do, so that any individual can fully explore their sexuality. There are no taboos concerning sex and no stigma attached to any aspect of it except for infidelity, which is considered a very despicable act, incest and rape (basically any forced sexual act, done without the consens of both parts; this also includes sex with animals or kids), which is, unlike the previous two, illegal, and punished by the law. Prostitution is legal, but only inside the pleasure houses. Contraceptives are legal and there is no taboo about them, same thing for abortion. Adoption is a pretty widespread act, especially among eryams.
Relationship and Marriage
People can be in a relationship without being married; weddings are mostly a religious and legal act, linking directly to the gods Ceartas and Nadur. Divorce is also accepted, and there is no taboo about it. Monogamy is the only form of marriage accepted, but if people want to have an open or polyamorous relationship, they are free to do so.
The wedding celebration is the same for every culture (more infos will be added in the future), but every single culture has different visual markers of the marital status (example: wedding rings): to know more about it, check the Eriu Species page.
